Pre WW1 period military book, copyright 1905 by the School of Application for Cavalry and field Artillery and copyright 1909 by the Mounted Service School. Front cover marked, “Training school for Farriers and Horseshoers, The Army Horseshoer, Mounted Service School, Fort Riley, Kan.” 6-3/4in x 5in format, hard covers, 146 pages, seventeen plates of photos and illustrations covering military horseshoeing topics such as, horseshoeing tools, getting the horse to cooperate with the horseshoer, understanding the horse’s foot, preparing the foot, correcting faults, throwing the horse for horseshoeing, making the shoe, making special shoes, etc, etc.  Inside back cover has penciled in notes by original owner, inside front cover marked, Capt. L.F. Lawrence. Light to moderate age to covers, pages near excellent. A nice early Mounted Service training manual. Vg.  $30.00  PHOTO SOLD

Manual For Army Horseshoers 1917. Dated October 26, 1917, Prepared at the mounted Service School, Fort Riley, Kans. 5-3/4in x 4-1/2in format, hard covers, 111 pages, one color plate, as well as, twenty six plates of photos and illustrations covering military horseshoeing topics such as, horseshoeing tools and their use, the forge, the fire, heats, working and shaping iron, anatomy of the horse’s foot, normal shoeing, gaits, diseases, etc, etc. Flyleaf and inside back cover stamped with red ink “Leslie F. Lawrence, Capt. Cavalry.” Captains name also hand written on inside front cover. Light to moderate age and fading  to covers, as well as moderate overall storage soil. Pages near excellent. A nice early Army Horseshoer training manual. SCARCE. Vg.  $20.00  PHOTO SOLD

1W1MM-3. Practical And Scientific Horseshoeing.
Written by Frank G. Churchill, copyright 1912 by Franklin Hudson Publishing Co., Kansas City, Mo. 6-1/2in x 5-1/8in format, hard covers, 127 pages, a few illustrations, one in color, and text discussing shoeing, anatomy and physiology of the horse’s foot, normal shoeing, shoeing for gaits, diseases of the horse’s feet. etc. etc. Notes and doodles on inside back cover and flyleaf, by original owner, as well as some underlining and marks inside. Front flyleaf inked, “Lt. L. F. Lawrence.” Moderate to heavy age to covers, rear outside cover and binding is missing some of the red surface finish. Looks like it was stuck to something at one time or suffered some water damage; a bit detracting but its almost all on the backside. Pages near excellent. A well-accepted scientific horseshoeing book of its time. Vg-.  $24.00  PHOTO SOLD
