2W2HB-16. The U.S. Marines On Iwo Jima.
Copyright 1943 by, The Dial Press, Approximately 5-1/2-inch wide x 8-1/4-inch high format, hard gray covers with “Iwo Jima,” (someone has over written the letters with black ink). 294 pages of text; black & white photos and illustrations. The book was written by three Marine Corps Combat Correspondents and two Marine Public Relations Officers who were with the units that fought on Iwo Jima. A complete, “down in the trench,” history of taking the island. The back several pages has a complete roster of the thousands of the dead and missing Marines of Iwo Jima. Heavy signs of storage soil, water damage to the top part of the back cover. the corners are moderately bumped, soiled and lightly worn. The spine is soiled and has darkened over the years and the top and bottom edge is lightly worn and soiled. The interior, pulp, pages are in Vg condition, they are yellowed from age. The binding is loose and the front flyleaf has come loose from the first page. The front and back flyleaves have been written on by previous owners. Exterior is in Fair condition, the interior is about Vg. We are not offering this book for the beauty of its covers, but for the historical information it contains. If you are at all interested in the Marines battle of Iwo Jima, this book will set your emotions boiling. Fair. $8.00 PHOTO

2W2HB-17. Infantry Aces of the Reich. By Gordon Williamson. Published in 1991 by Arms & Armor Press, London England. 5-1/2-inch wide x 8-3/4-inch high, hard covers with illustrated dust jacket. 154 pages, including 16-pages of black & white photos of Knights Cross winners and several photos of combat badges, as well. The book has been written with information and photographs provided buy surviving Knights Cross winners, as well as, information and photographs from the next of kin of some of the soldiers included. The work details the individual events and actions leading up to their receiving the Knights Cross. The book also includes a description of various combat badges and the requirements for their award. An interesting historical read. A Beautiful copy that’s been very lightly used and very carefully cared for; like new, inside and out. Dust jacket excellent ++. 2W2HB-18. Mountain Troops of the Waffen SS 1941-1945. By Roland Kaltenegger. Published in 1995 by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. 7-1/4-inch wide x 10-1/4-inch high, hard covers with illustrated dust jacket. 158 pages, hundreds of black & white photos of SS Mountain Troops in combat , as well as all other daily activities. There are only 82 pages of text, which includes a short history of SS mountain Troop units, Order of Battle, the SS Mountain Divisions, illustrations of Battle Group structure, as well as illustrations of selected SS Mountain Troop unit insignia, cuff titles and various documents of interest. A Beautiful copy that’s been very lightly used and carefully cared for, except, the front flyleaf, which contains the copyright information, has a large tear out of the bottom 1/4 of the page; It seem likely that the previous owner may have had his name on that page and he unceremoniously tore his mane from the book, otherwise, the book and the dust jacket is in excellent++ condition inside and out. By Peter Guttmacher. First edition, published in 1996 by Michael Friedman Publishing Group, Inc. 9-3/4-inch wide x 13-inch high format, hard covers, photo illustrated dust jacket. 128 pages with black & white or a full color photograph on almost every page. Am excellent monograph detailing selected epic war movies; why they were made, who made them, and the actors who stared in them; the book will entertain and inform you. The dust cover is in very good condition exhibiting light signs of age light shelf wear and minor corner bumps no rips, tears or other damage. The exterior covers, binding and interior pages are all in near excellent condition. The previous owner has inscribed and signed the inside front flyleaf. Used. Vg+. $15.00 PHOTO SOLD

By Cornelius Ryan; first edition, copyright 1959 by Cornelius Ryan; published by Simon and Schuster, Inc., New York; (book club edition). 6-1/4-inch x 9-1/2-inch format, hard covers, with illustrated dust jacket. 350 pages; several photographs and illustrations; full color maps on inside covers and flyleaves. The epic story of D-Day, June 6, 1944. The dust jacket is in near excellent condition exhibiting very light surface wear from light handling and shelf wear, one tiny tear on the front bottom edge, light and minor wear on the edges and corners, as well as, a mark on the upper right front corner where there was once a price tag, (nothing serious). The exterior covers, binding and interior pages are all excellent+ and in like new condition. Very nice.  $20.00 PHOTO


2W2HB-21. Sieg Heil.
First Edition 1974, published by W.W. Norton & Company, New York. 9-3/4-inch wide x 12-3/4-inch high, very large format, hard covers with illustrated dust jacket. 352 pages with hundreds of photos, some unique to this book, and not published elsewhere. The photos and corresponding text depict the German history of struggle and strife, from Bismarck and the Franco-Prussian War of 1871 to the fall of Nazi Germany in 1945. A photojournalistic view of this period of inflation, hunger, unemployment, fighting of the parties, drug addiction, sexual permissiveness, and the erosion of civil liberties. The unique dust jacket is a composite of the three rulers who dominated Germany; the illustration depicts Hitler’s face, embellished with the moustache of Kiser Wilhelm II and the uniform of Bismarck. Stefan Lorant, who is considered the father of modern photojournalism, personally lived through the Nazi period. The dust jacket is in Vg condition exhibiting minor surface wear light handling and storage, (nothing serious). The corners and edges of the dust jacket exhibit some small paper chips. Light wear, as well as, two very short tears, on the top edge, (nothing serious). The exterior covers and the inside of the dust jacket have picked up moderate, white mildew spots from storage; The binding is tight and interior pages are excellent. Overall exterior condition Vg. An interesting slant of the period presented. Very reasonably priced at. $10.00 PHOTO


2W2HB-22. GAS, Ballantine Series, by Ian V. Hogg, Ballantine Illustrated History of the Violent Century, Weapons Book No.43. "GAS" is one of the most difficult Ballantine issues to acquire and is a key book in collecting the Ballantine series. Copyright 1975, first printing. 5-1/4-inch wide x 8-1/4-inch high format, color illustrated soft covers, 160 black & white photo illustrated pages and text relative to Gas Warfare in WW1; political and social views of gas warfare as it is relative to the military and the civilian population, as well. The covers are in excellent condition, exhibiting very minor and insignificant signs of age from very light handling and shelf storage age. Interior pages are excellent, however, they show some age yellowing around the edges, which seem to be the nature of these early Ballantine books. Overall very tight and clean. Very Scarce. Overall Excellent. $32.00 PHOTO

Reporting the history, training and deeds of America's war dogs.  Copyright 1944, second printing, published by Macmillan Company, New York. 5-3/4-inch wide x 8-1/4-inch high format, hard covers, illustrated dust jacket, 179 pages, 32 black & white photos. Dust jacket is aged, worn, heavily tattered and has repairs and is in relic condition. The covers exhibit signs of age and minor soil from handling; the inside covers and flyleaves have brown foxing marks from age and storage; the wartime pulp paper pages have yellowed from age, which is characteristic of wartime paper, however, the pages and photos are still in nice condition. Great photos and an interesting read. Original owners name inked on front flyleaf. Dust jacket rates poor; the book would rate Vg or better. $15.00 PHOTO
