| PIAT (Projector Infantry
Anti Tank) Round –
Deactivated & Completely Inert |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| 1BCE-1. Approximately 3-3/8in diameter x
16-1/4 in high, a very hard to find HE (High Explosive) round for the
British PIAT weapon, (Projector Infantry Anti Tank); a simple weapon
which was able to penetrate any German tank, as well as, punch holes in
buildings, (mouse-holing), and was used notably by the British Airborne
at Arnhem. Most PIAT rounds found today, are "Training Rounds"
painted black and marked “Inert.” The round we are offering is an
actual, deactivated, high explosive projectile that was used in combat;
the round was likely fired and failed to explode. The tip of this
1944 model round is intact, which is a very rare occurrence, as
they are mostly found badly damaged due to impact, even if the round
failed to explode. This tip is all there, it has one moderate spot of
deterioration and is ever so slightly bent; not at all detracting and
not noticeable at first glance. Approximately 90% of its original
wartime olive/brown paint remains. A 5/8-inch wide, lime green painted
band indicates the type of explosive filler. The top of the body is
marked with hand painted red “X’s” indicating “High
Explosive.” The body exhibits black stenciling indicating “Lot”
numbers and it is dated “3/44.” The base ring is stamped “BCL.”
One fin is stamped with the British broad arrow and
“M10.” Another fin has a series of very small numbers. The
upper half of the round is in very good condition with only very minor
signs of very light surface rust in spots. There are small to moderate
scratches, chips and flakes of paint some exposing the base metal. The
bottom half of the round is in Vg+ condition with most of it paint
intact. There is no rust holes or damage to the main parts of the round.
The thin metal, threaded, ring that secures the head to the body has
suffered the most; there are several spots of rust deterioration and
rust holes, however, the detractions associated with this ring in no way
diminish the overall Vg+ condition and completeness of this round. The
interior parts still retain their original finish. It is very difficult
to find an original WW2 Piat round in any condition. This one is in
superior collectible condition, not completely rusted out or
missing parts as most will be. This round is totally de-activated
and inert, with explosive components removed. It’s perfect for
display by itself or display it with your PIAT launcher; it would be an
enhancement to any collection. You will not be disappointed. VERY
SCARCE. Overall Vg. $350.00
