Imperial Japanese Army Brass Dog Tag

1J-1. Approximately 1-5/16-inch wide x 1-13/16-inch high, thin, oval brass disk with rectangular stamped holes on each end. The front and back sides are, somewhat, crudely hand-engraved with Japanese kanji characters; each side has the same lettering. The disk is moderately aged and tarnished, otherwise it’s in Vg++ condition. A very nice example. $125.00
Japanese China Incident War Medal
1J-2. The "incident" at the Marco Polo Bridge near Peiping, Cnina, on the 7th of July, 1937, culminated with the invasion of China by Japan. The war medal was awarded to Imperial Japanese soldiers for service in China from 1937 until the end of Japanese hostilities in 1945. The medal is constructed from a 1-3/8-inch diameter bronze disk, which is attached to an, elaborate, horizontal, bronze suspension bar using a swivel pin. The original, multi-colored, ribbon is fed through the suspension bar and the ribbon has its original ‘hook and eye" attachment on the backside. The front of the medal depicts the Japanese mythical "Yata-no-karasu" bird, standing on crossed Japanese army and navy flags with the Japanese national chrysanthemum symbol above the birds head. The backside of the medal depicts mountain, clouds and waves. There are Japanese writing characters on the cross bar and the front and backside of the medal. The metal parts are lightly worn and tarnished to base bronze metal; very minor and insignificant signs of the original bright bronze finish can still be seen; the ribbon is moderately aged, insignificantly worn and moderate to heavily soiled form handling and use; the ribbon fabric is intact and serviceable. A very nice example. About Vg. $45.00
Japanese China Incident War Medal in Original Presentation Box
1J-3. The metal parts are lightly worn and tarnished to base bronze metal, however, quite a bit of the original bright bronze finish is still present. The multi-colored ribbon is still somewhat bright; it is moderately aged, insignificantly worn and it is moderately overall soiled form handling and use; the ribbon fabric is intact and completely serviceable. The 2-5/16-inch wide x 4-5/16-inch high presentation box is made from lightweight wood, which is covered in, very dark purple/black leatherette finished paper; numerous silver Japanese characters are impressed vertically on the domed lid. The interior of the box exhibits moderate, to heavy signs of soil and dust; it has a blue flocked base, surrounded by white leatherette trim and it is fitted to accept the China Incident medal. The box is heavily aged inside and out; the exterior paper is heavily worn on the corners and edges; there is a heavily worn spot near the bottom center front where, apparently, something was glued at some time; the lid hinge is still intact and serviceable. The box would rate about Vg-; the medal is Vg or better. A very acceptable example. $75.00
Imperial Japanese 1904-1905 War Medal - Japanese/Russia War
1J-4. The medal was created on March 31, 1906 for the members of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy who participated in the war against Russia. The medal is constructed from a 1-3/8-inch diameter bronze disk, which is attached to an elaborate, horizontal, bronze suspension bar using a swivel pin. The original, multi-colored, ribbon is fed through the suspension bar; the "hook and eye" attachment is missing from the backside. The front of the medal depicts the paulownia crest design, superimposed on crossed Japanese army and navy flags which are surmounted by the Imperial Japanese national chrysanthemum symbol. The backside of the medal depicts a monument bearing Japanese writing characters; the monument is surrounded by a palm and laurel branch. The metal parts are lightly worn and moderately tarnished to base bronze metal; some of the original gilt finish can be seen in low areas and in the crevices of the design; the ribbon is heavily aged, faded and has a heavily worn area on the backside; the ribbon exhibits heavily soil from handling, use and storage; the ribbon fabric is still quite sound. A good representative example. Overall about Vg-. $35.00
