1RPW-6. Approximately
13-1/2-inch overall length, with gold finished, brass, hardware; the
pommel nut is fashioned with a soviet style star on top; the pommel cap is
impressed with the Russian hammer & sickle device, which is
superimposed on the world, with a Soviet star above, within a wreath. The
grip is constructed from a light beige colored composition material;
it’s in excellent condition and is fitted with a pushbutton release,
just above crossguard. Approximately 95%, or more, of the original gold
finish remains on the pommel and in the pushbutton area; the finish
exhibits light signs of age, insignificant tarnish, as well as
insignificant surface scratches from handling. Someone has lightly applied
pliers to the pommel nut at some time, leaving some vertical plier marks,
(nothing seriously detracting). Approximately 90%, or more, of the
original gold finish remains on the crossguard; the finish exhibits light
to moderate finish wear, (some heavy areas of finish wear), as well as
light surface scratches from handling and use; the front of the cross
guard has more finish wear than the backside. The bright, double-edged,
chrome plated blade is 8-1/4-inch long x 11/16-inch wide; the front side
of the blade has a maker’s logo design, it’s dated 1971 and is serial
numbered 6328 on the reverse side. The blade retains approximately 98%, or
more of its original plating with extremely light wear to the chrome
finish in the area of the serial number; the blade has minor signs of
being put in and taken out of the scabbard; the blade retains its, light,
factory sharpening and there is, one, very tiny and insignificant, nick on
the knife edge, that’s not actually noticeable at first glance; the tip
has not been altered. The black leather washer, between the crossguard and
the scabbard, is still intact. The scabbard is covered with, fine-grained,
black leather, which exhibits light signs of scuffs, scratches and minor
nicks in the leather from average handling and use; the scabbard has gold
finished hardware and double hanger rings. The gold finish on the throat
area of the scabbard is heavily worn to base brass metal, maybe 40% of the
original gold finish remains; the front it is engraved with a fouled
anchor design; the backside of the throat area is engraved with a
depiction of a sailing ship. The lower hanger ring hardware retains 90%,
or more of its original gold finish, with a moderate scratch, in the
finish, on the backside. The metal tip retains 90%, or more of its
original gold finish, which exhibits some moderate surface scratching on
the front and backside from normal use. The dress belt with hangers is in
excellent condition, it has the slightest signs of age from handling and
does not appear to have had any use; the belt is constructed from a heavy
gold colored cloth fabric with three bands of multi colored stripes. The
stamped metal buckle retains 99.9% of its original gold finish and depicts
a fouled anchor, surmounted by a star, within a laurel wreath. Both
hanger straps have the same design as the buckle. I just noticed
that the top hanger loop has been reattached at some time; it is a strong,
very clean job and I did not see it until I was closely inspecting and
describing the scabbard, I will price the unit accordingly; even with the
repair, it’s a very nice used example. Vg. $210.00 |
