directed activities against the Axis in North Africa and Europe; American,

on the front and backside; the patch is used and remnants of hand stitched
thread still remain. A very difficult patch to find.

Approximately 3-1/2in oval patch depicting a double lightning bolt,
breaking the chain enslaving Europe, as well as, the Army Service Force
star and cloud design. Backside is plain black cloth. The European Theatre
of Operations Headquarters was established in 1942, the units mission was
to prepare and implement operations in the European Theatre of Operations
and was responsible for all U.S. Army Forces in Europe. The design is
screen printed on thin, dark blue, cotton material with a, stiff, black

high, large and impressive looking, fully embroidered patch, The central
design depicts a gold eagle, within a circle of thirteen stars; the eagles
wings are positioned in a, "V," for the sign of, "Victory"
and there are red, white and blue bars across the top edge of the patch. As the war in Europe ended, the original mission of the
Headquarters for the European Theatre of Operations, (ETOUSA), changed to
redeploying U.S. Army personnel and equipment; consolidating and
liquidating American assets; as well as, overseeing aspects the
occupation. The use of this 3rd design ETOUSA patch was short lived as it was
superceded by the blue background SHAEF patch. Unused. Excellent. $12.00 |

Heavy embroidered, highly detailed blue patch, depicting a white
embroidered eagle, lion and the Roman numeral “II,” within a white
border. This patch has a slightly wider variation outside blue
border that most; there are many manufacturing variations in
the embroidery of this patch; you can own many examples of this patch, each with a distinct embroidered variation.
European Theatre of Operation headquartered in Southern
England. Assault landings in North Africa, Tunisia, Kaserine Pass,
Bizerete, Sicily, Messina, German Winter Line in Italy, Cassino, Gustav
Line, Anzio, Rome, Gothic Line, Bologna, Po River, Verona, The Corps
sealed the Brenner Pass to stop the German Retreat, Occupation duty in
Italy and Austria. The Second Corps fought in eight Campaigns. Very nice

wide x 2-1/8-inch high, embroidered blue patch, depicting a white

as, a light colored olive outside border. The front and backside exhibit
an overall embroiderer consistent with patches produced in Italy during

Infantry Division – The Keystone Division |

12UP-146. 2-1/2-inch wide x 2-3/8-inch
high red “keystone” shaped patch. Pryor to the US entering WW2, the 28th
Division was a Pennsylvania National Guard Division, it was federalized in
1941; in 1942, after some state-side training, the division embarked for
the European Theatre of Operations, arriving in England, for aditional
training, then landed in Normandy, France on July 22, 1944. The 28th
Division fought in the hedgerows of Normandy at St. Lo, Percy, Gathemo
and onto Paris. The 28th Division moved through France and into
Luxembourg at a very fast pace. Siegfried Line, Elsenborn, Huertgen
Forest, At the Our River in Luxembourg the 28th Division faced
two divisions of General von Manteufel’s Corps, and withstood the direct
attention of five German Divisions at the same time. The 28th
suffered many casualties and withdrew for a rest and re-fitting; they
re-entered the battle on the Muse River. Vosges Mountains, Colmar
Pocket, Ahr River. Five campaigns, 196 days in combat at a loss of over

wide x 2-1/4-inch high, fully embroidered red, “keystone,” shaped

Infantry Division - The Sunset Division
– Separately Applied Felt Variation |

12UP-147. 3-inch wide x
1-3/4-inch high,
officer quality, private purchase patch, which is constructed
with, four, separately applied, machine sewn, pieces of felt depicting a,
large, golden yellow sun on a red background with a blue and olive bar
across the bottom of the patch. This example exhibits several moth nips
and bites; some are deep, however, they do not actually go completely
through the material; there is one nip that can be seen on the outer edge
at about 1-O'clock. The backside is covered with olive felt and there is a
moderate brown spot that appears to be some type of hardened glue, (the
glue does not affect the front of the patch). The applied pieces of felt
give the patch a, thick, padded appearance. The 41st Infantry Division was a
National Guard Unit that was federalized in 1940; they embarked for
Australia in 1942. New Guinea, Port Moresby, Salamaua Campaign, Hollandia,
Netherlands, New Guinea, Wake Island, Biak Island, Palawan, Zamboanga,
Basilan Island, Sanga Sanga, Jolo. The 41st Infantry division
fought in three campaigns at a cost of over 4,200 men. A, unique,

| U.S. Forces In The
Middle East |

high patch depicting blue waves and a white star on a white field.
Established in 1942, its initial mission was to support the 9th
Army Air Force until it re-located in England. The unit then assumed the
roll of supporting Air Transportation Command activities in the Middle
East. In September 1943 the Mid East and Central Africa Commands were
consolidated; the unit was then known as the Africa and Middle East
Theatre. This example is unused, however it has light soil marks on the
right and left border edge and the top wave, as if someone with dirty
fingers handled the patch. A nice large size patch that is somewhat difficult
to find. The patch is not as soiled looking as it appears in the image. Unused. about Vg. $7.00 SOLD |

fully embroidered white patch depicting a white snowfield in the
foreground, a white igloo with
a blue entrance and a red aurora emitting above the igloo. A joint
Canadian and American agreement, "The Crimson Project," was to provide three
airfields, as well as weather stations converging near Frobisher Bay, Nunavut
Territory, Canada. The unit was headquartered at Presque Isle, Maine. A
real beauty. SCARCE.

Navy, Army Infantry, Coast Artillery, Field Artillery, Military Police and
the Engineers. Several distinct variations of the sword and the

wide x 3-inch high, multi-colored, embroidered oval patch depicting a red
blade sword with gold grip, superimposed on a white embroidered Washington
Monument; the monument sits on a green hill; blue background, white &
red border. The backside of this patch has an overall olive green
thread backing that is of particular interest to collectors; (it is
somewhat unusual to find this patch with a green backing). Established

colored embroidered patch with a medium colored olive green border; the white
areas have vertical style embroidery and the backside has a nice white
thread backing. The initial mission of the unit was for the U.S. to share in
the defense of Iceland at the request of the Icelandic government. A
declaration by president Roosevelt, that Iceland was covered under the
Monroe Doctrine, started the transfer of the First Marine Brigade, as well
as selected Army
units to be headquartered in Reykajavik, Iceland in 1941. During the war,
Iceland became an important area to the U.S. for transport operations to the European Theatre of Operations.

12UP-152. 2-1/2-inch x 2-1/2-inch red
patch with embroidered blue waves on a white shield. Organized in North
Africa, the unit planned for the invasion of Sicily, as well as, the first
major invasion of the European Continent at the Gulf of Salerno in Italy;
at that time, the 15th Army Group consisted of the U.S. 5th
Army and the British 8th Army. Cassino, Anzio, Rome, Arno
River, Po River, Northern Italy. Headquartered in Austria at the end of
the war. Very nice, mostly white, backside. A difficult patch to
acquire. SCARCE. Unused. Excellent. $16.00

| 18th
Corps – (XVIII) & 18th Airborne Corps |

12UP-153. 3-1/8-inch wide x 3-1/8-inch
high heavily embroidered white patch depicting a blue dragon, within a
blue border. The corps was activated in October 1943. After participation
in the Louisiana and Texas maneuvers, the unit embarked for the European
Theatre of Operations in august 1944. After arriving in England the unit
was advised it had been re-designated an Airborne Corps and placed under
the control of the First Allied Airborne Army. The patch remained the same
but was worn as a square with the addition of a blue and white airborne
tab, as opposed to being worn as a diamond shape as the 18th
corps. The 18th Airborne Corps was assigned logistical and
technical support for the “Market “ phase of Operation market Garden,
and provided training and support for the 82nd Airborne and the
101st Airborne during their rest periods in France. Corps units
saw combat with the 82nd Airborne at Werbonnet, Belgium, as
well as Malmedy, Stavelot and Grand Menil with various infantry units.
Salm River, Siegfried Line, Huertgen Forest, Wesel Operation, (an airborne
assault across the Rhine, River). Dillenberg,
Germany; Rhur Pocket, Lenne River. As hostilities ended in Europe, the 18th
Airborne Corps returned to the USA to prepare to enter the pacific Theatre
of Operations, however the Japanese surrender ended the need of the Corps
involvement. Throughout the WW2 period the 18th Airborne Corps
participated in Three Campaigns, they fought with several different US
Infantry Divisions; the British 2nd Army, as well as, the
British 6th Airborne Division. Unfortunately we do not
have the proper WW2 Airborne tab for this patch. Unused.
