NOTE:
In
some cases, because we have small quantities of some of the patches listed,
you may not receive the exact patch that is pictured; however, you will
receive, an original WW2 period patch, as good, or in better condition than
the one shown. Of course, variations and those listed because of their
uniqueness will be the actual patch you will receive. |
| The following original Army Officers Branch of Service,
(BOS), collar
insignia were manufactured during WW2. We acquired them from the
inventory of an old surplus store, long out of business. They are embroidered on chocolate brown
"Elastique" material for wear on the WW2
Officers dress tunic or on tan cotton twill for use on WW2 Officers
shirts. Each pair of Officers BOS collar insignia comes in its original
glassine paper envelope. The flap on the envelope has been stapled
leaving staple marks and some deterioration to the paper. The insignia
has been cut from a
roll. They SCARCE and are in MINT UNISSUED CONDITION. |

| 36th
Infantry Division - The Texas Division |
 |
3UP-36.
1-3/4-inch
wide x 2-1/2-inch high, light blue, embroidered arrowhead shaped patch
depicting a heavy embroidered, olive green letter “T” in the center.
The 36th Infantry Division was an active Texas National Guard
unit that embarked for the European Theatre of Operation in April 1943.
They trained in North Africa preparing for the amphibious assault of
Italy, at the Gulf of Salerno and slowly but steadily fought against the
Germans in bad weather and mountainous territory. Operation Raincoat,
Mignamo Gap, San Pietro, Rapido, River, Gustav Line, Cassino,
Anzio, Rome, Velletri Line. After a rest, the 36th Infantry
prepared for Operation Anvil, the invasion of Southern France. San
Raphael, Rhone River valley, Montelimar, Moselle River, Meur River,
Saint Marie Pass, Rhine River. The 36th Infantry attacked the
German National Redoubt at Kunzelsau in April 1945. 400 days of combat
in five campaigns, at a staggering loss of over 19,400 men; 7th
highest of all Infantry Divisions. It is interesting to note that
during this time, the 36th Infantry Division exercised
operational control over 1st Special Service Force. The
patch exhibits very slight and insignificant signs of age from handling.
Unused. Near excellent.

| 36th
Infantry Division - The Texas Division |
 |
3UP-36a.
1-3/4-inch
wide x 2-1/2-inch high, light blue, embroidered arrowhead shaped patch, same description as above,
except this example
exhibits very slight and insignificant signs of age from handling, as
well as very slight and insignificant, even, soil on the front side and
the backside has old yellow residue from tape or glue, from being in a
scrapbook, (nothing of a serious nature). Unused. Vg+. $6.00 SOLD |
| 36th
Infantry Division - The Texas Division |
| 3UP-36b.
Same description as above, except this patch is
slightly smaller than above, 1-5/8-inch wide x 2-1/2-inch high and it
exhibits moderate age, light to moderate wear and light to moderate,
even, soil. The patch is used and has been
removed from a uniform; remnants of original, hand-sewing, thread still remain.
Used. About Vg. $5.00 |
| 36th
Infantry Division - The Texas Division - Greenback Variation |
 |
3UP-36c. 1-3/4-inch wide 2-3/4-inch high, light blue,
(slightly lighter blue than the above patches), embroidered, arrowhead shaped patch,
same description as above, except the backside has
an overall green thread that is of particular interest to patch
collectors. The patch exhibits moderate age, light to moderate
wear in some areas, as well as moderate, even, overall soil from
handling and use. The patch has been removed from a uniform; remnants of
original sewing thread still remain. A very nice soft and flexible
patch. About Vg. $26.00 SOLD |
| 36th
Infantry Division - The Texas Division - Italian Theatre Made Variation
With Bullion Letter "T" - Very Unique |
 |
3UP-36d. 1-3/4-inch wide 2-5/8-inch high, pale blue,
embroidered arrowhead shaped patch with an unusual tan
colored border edge and the letter "T" is hand embroidered
using a gold wire that has tarnished over the years. The bullion
wire, hand embroidered construction, is consistent with patches that
were made locally in the European Theatre of Operations during WW2; this
example was most likely made in Italy. The backside has blue
linen cloth to strengthen the area where the "T" is embroidered;
also a red fabric can be seen on the outside edge of the back side and
appears to be part of the construction of the border edge. The front of
the patch exhibits light signs of age, insignificant wear, as well as a
light hint of, even, overall soil from handling and use. The patch has been removed from a
uniform and remnants of
original hand stitched thread still remains. A very unusual and
unique example of an Italian, theatre made, 36th Infantry Division
patch; one that we have not previously encountered. VERY SCARCE. Used.
Vg. $65.00 SOLD |

Army |
 |
3UP-38. 2-3/8-inch
wide x 2-1/2-inch high, nonagon, (nine-sided), patch depicting a white
letter “A,” within a four leaf clover design, embroidered on a red
background. The 9th Army arrived in England June 1944, then proceeded to
the Brittany Peninsula, France in September 1944. Captured Brest and
guarded the 12th Army along the Loire River. During the Battle of the Bulge
the 9th Army was assigned to Montgomery’s
British 21st Army Group. They participated in Operation
Grenade; the Siegfried line, the Ruhr and Lippstadt, Germany. The 9th
Army was the first Allied Army to cross the Rhine River and
advanced within 50-miles of Berlin. At one time the 9th
Army was simultaneously operating in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, The
Netherlands and Germany; they commanded 39 US and Allied Divisions; they
captured over 750,000 enemy and liberated about 600,00 Allied POW’s.

| Philippine
Department |
 |
3UP-40. 2-1/2-inch
oval, blue embroidered, patch depicting a white embroidered "Sea Lion"
holding a sword. The design was taken from the coat of arms of Spain,
suggesting the Spanish/Philippine heritage. The Philippine Department was established in
1913; its mission was to defend the Philippine Islands against enemy
attack, as well as, training of the Philippine Army. Without sufficient
training, personnel and equipment, the Philippine
Department could not effectively resist the superior
Japanese forces. Forced to retreat, General MacArthur withdrew his
troops from Luzon to the Bataan Peninsula. General MacArthur was forced
to leave his troops under the command of Lt. General Jonathan
Wainwright, who, in June of 1942, surrendered to the
superior Japanese invaders. A somewhat of a difficult patch
to acquire. Unused. Excellent. $12.00 SOLD |
| Philippine

 |
3UP-40a. Same description as above, and

example exhibits an overall white thread backing of
particular interest to patch collectors. A very nice example Unused. Excellent. $16.00

Department Variation Embroidery With A Lemon/Gold Star |
 |
3UP-41. 2-1/2-inch diameter, heavily embroidered, patch depicting a snarling
polar bear under a lemon/gold star; heavily embroidered black
thread defines the characteristics of the bears face. The unit
was headquartered in Alaska; the Alaskan Department trained ground force personnel and administered over
the many small posts within Alaska during WW2. Alaska was a major
delivery point for U.S. lend-lease aircraft to Russia. A
fun patch to
collect as there are many manufacturing variations in the embroidery
on the bears face; you can own scores of this patch each with a distinct
embroidered variation. This specimen exhibits very light
signs of age, as well as minor soil form handling and storage. The patch
does not appear to have been used, however, it has two pieces of black
thread sewn on the edge, at about 2-o'clock, it's possible that the patch was
sewn onto a blanket or other display item. Vg. $8.00 SOLD |
