shield shaped patch, depicting a blue compass rose, outlined in white,
superimposed on a sixteen point white circle, all embroidered on an olive
drab background with a blue border. Backside exhibits heavy white thread.
Trained divisions for overseas service in 1943 and landed on Omaha Beach
in September of 1944. Processed troops arriving in Normandy; guarded
against attacks from German troops stranded in the Channel Islands; saw
combat
in the Ardennes, Roher River, and Siegfried Line; Venlo, Maas River,
Holland, Rhineburg, Germany, Rhine River, Fort Bluecher, Ruhr
encirclement, Essen, Dortmund, and occupation in Westphalia. Nice large

patch; the patch depicts a, large, golden yellow colored Coast Artillery
shell, superimposed on a silhouette of Hawaii’s “Diamond Head”

(Coast Artillery colors are gold and scarlet). The patch design was

| Hawaiian Costal
Artillery Brigade - Felt Patch Separately Applied Pieces |

6UP-D68b. 2-1/4-inch
wide x 2-3/4-inch oval patch constructed of four, separate, machine sewn,
pieces of felt. The patch depicts a, large, golden yellow colored Coast
Artillery shell, superimposed on a silhouette of Hawaii’s “Diamond
Head” volcano mountain, which is sewn onto a scarlet oval which is sewn
onto a gold oval backing; (Coast Artillery colors are gold and scarlet).
The patch design was approved in May 1936 and was used by units assigned
to the costal defense of the Hawaiian Islands. There are several moth nips
and bites, on the scarlet portion, that do not actually go completely
through the scarlet material. The outer golden yellow edge has indications
of being stitched to a uniform. The backside is gold felt; machine sewing
can clearly be seen on the backside. The patch exhibits light age and has
a thick padded appearance. A high quality, private purchase patch
that would enhance any collection.

Infantry Division – The Trailblazer Division |

6UP-69. 2-3/8-inch wide x 3-1/4-inch high fully embroidered red
patch bearing an embroidered white lumberman’s axe, white mountain and
green tree. European Theatre of Operation in December 1944 arriving in
Marseille, France. Assigned to the Seventh Army they proceeded to the west
bank of the Rhine River near Bischweiler. The unit defeated Von
Rundstedt’s German forces at Phillipsborg and Wingen eliminating the
Bitche Salient. The 70th aggressively patrolled the area of
Sarrguemines to Morsbach while preparing for the drive into Germany. Saar
River, Saarbrucken, the 70th liberated over 1000 Allied
prisoners as they advanced to Styreng-Wendel. Crossing the Saar River they
captured Saarbrucken and pierced the Seigfried Line capturing several
important cities. The 70th then participated in the destruction
of the enemy in the Saar Basin until the end of hostilities in Europe.
Occupation duty in Frankfort, Bad Kreuznach, Oranienstein and Otterberg. 83 days in combat, two campaigns, at a cost of over 3,900 men
killed. Appears to be unused; has just the slightest signs of age from
storage and handling. About excellent $8.00 SOLD |

6UP-71. 2-1/8-inch
wide x 2-1/2-inch wide Confederate gray shield shaped patch, depicting a
red, “Caltrap,” heraldic design, superimposed on a Confederate blue “X.”
Activated in December 1942, embarked for the Pacific Theatre of Operation
in January 1943. Commanded by Major General Alexander Patch who was
assigned command of Americans on Guadalcanal. Cape Esperance; assault
landings on Rendova and Vanguna Islands; New Georgia, Munda Airfield,
Bairoko Harbor, Baange, Arundel, Sagekarasa, Kolombangara, and Vella Lavella.
The Corps continued operations against the Japanese on Bougainville while
preparing for the invasion of the Philippines. Luzon, Assault landings at
the Lingayen Gulf, Zambles Mountains, Bambam Mountains, Manilla and the
liberation of American prisoners at Bilibid Prison and Los Banos Prison.
The 14th Corps participated in four campaigns. Unused.

6UP-72. 2-3/4-inch square fully embroidered olive drab patch depicting
an embroidered red acorn, crossed white arrows and a blue 4-leaf clover.
European Theatre of Operation in January 1945. As part of the Seventh Army
the unit saw combat at the Colmar Canal near the Maginot Line; operated
with the
French First Army in the Colmar Pocket.
Rhine River in February 1945. Saw
action with
the Seventh Army at Forbach,
Styring-Wendal, Saar River, Siegfried Line, Saarbrucken, Bitche; crossed the Rhine River at Neuschlos and Manheim. Konigshafen, Wurzburg,
Schweinfurt, Laucheim; secured a bridgehead on the Danube River at
Dillingen. Landsberg, into Austria, advanced towards Innsbruck and the
Brenner Pass. Bad Tolz, Walchen See, Oberammergau, Inn River Valley and
occupation duty at the end of the war. The 21st Corps
participated in three campaigns. Minor and insignificant fray spots on

6UP-73. Approximately 2-1/4-inch
wide x 3-1/4-inch high, fully embroidered shield shaped patch depicting a white
Chinese sun and U.S. type star, which is machine embroidered on a blue background with red and
white, U.S. type stripes below, with a medium colored olive border. The CBI
was activated in March 1942 and was commanded by Lt. General Joseph W.
Stilwell, who was assigned authority over American troops on the Asiatic
mainland. Despite many setbacks, General Stilwell was able to train
Chinese troops and dispose of the Japanese presence in north-central
Burma
through the implementation of Operation Capitol, complete the Ledo
Road, open air and land routes into central China, as well as provide liaison
and supply to the China Burma India Theatre. Extremely minor and
insignificant soil from handling. Unused.

wide x 2-3/4-inch high, fully hand embroidered, shield shaped, patch depicting
a white
Chinese sun and U.S. type star on a blue background with red and
white, U.S. type stripes below. The design is embroidered using heavy
cotton thread. The front of this specimen exhibits heavy
signs of age and wear, as well as overall light, even, soil with some
moderate soil spots on the rays of the sun. The backside exhibits a
multitude of thread, showing the considerable amount of handwork that went
into the construction of this patch. A very nice representative
example of one of the many classic variations of the
WW2 CBI theatre of operations patch. Well used. About good

6UP-73d. Approximately 2-1/2-inch
wide x 3-1/2-inch high, shield shaped patch with silver wire, Chinese sun and U.S. type star,
hand embroidered on a very dark blue background; a ribbed fabric, bearing red and
white, U.S. type, stripes is hand sewn onto the bottom edge of the wool
background. The silver wire is heavily tarnished and a few pieces of
metallic covering is missing from the bottom left leg of the star,
(nothing seriously detracting). The center of the sun is trimmed
with heavy blue thread. The blue wool knap is heavily aged and worn;
the stripes are moderately aged and moderate to heavily soiled from handling
and actual use and there is a small thread pull near the bottom of the
center red stripe, (nothing serious). A
thin piece of olive/tan material is hand stitched to the backside of the
patch; the Olive/tan material is stained blue where the blue wool color
has bled through from the front, (nothing serious). Minor signs of hand
stitching and minor remnants of original sewing thread still remain. One
of the many classic variations of the CBI patch. Used.

6UP-73f. Approximately 2-1/4-inch
wide x 3-inch high, shield shaped patch with white thread Chinese sun and U.S. type star,
hand embroidered on dark blue linen background, the center of the Chinese
sun is hand outlined with heavy blue thread. The bottom of the patch is
constructed with, fine, red and white striped linen material. The patch
exhibits very light signs of age, as well as very light and
insignificant soil from handling and light use. A
thin piece of olive/tan material is hand stitched to the backside of the
patch. This patch is used and has been removed from a uniform; original
stitch marks and remnants of original sewing thread still remain. A very
handsome example.
One of the many classic variations of the CBI patch.

| 30th
Infantry Division - Old Hickory Division - Variation Embroidery - Black

6UP-74. 1-3/4-inch
wide x 2-1/2-inch high, red oval patch, with blue embroidered “OH,”
(Old Hickory), monogram and the Roman numeral “XXX” (30, the Division
number). This specimen is constructed in an
early style, exhibiting horizontal lines of embroidery; the patch is
somewhat thin and has a soft, floppy, feel. The reverse has an
overall “BLACK” thread
backing, which is of particular interest to patch collectors. The
30th Infantry was a training unit until February 1944. The unit embarked for England in
February 1944 and proceeded to land in Normandy on Omaha beach on D-Day + 9 (June 15,
1944). Vire-et-Taute Canal, Vier River, St. Lo; meeting a German counter
attack that split the American forces; the 30th Infantry
division fought tough
German Infantry and Armor troops that included the Adolph Hitler SS
Panzer
Division. It took five days of combat and the loss of 1800 of the
Divisions men to defeat the Germans and link back up with their “lost
Battalion.” Then on to
Belgium, the Meuse River, and into Holland; Siegfried Line, Aachen, Battle
of the Bulge, St. Vith, Operation Grenade, Rhine River, into Hamelin,
Germany, Brauschweig, Magdenburg and linked up with the Russians. The 30th
Infantry Division participated in the German occupation. The 30th was defined
as “Roosevelt’s SS Troops” by the Germans who fought them. 282
days in combat in five campaigns, with over 18,400 men, the 9th highest in casualties of the Infantry Divisions.
The patch exhibits light age and moderate signs of wear
from actual use; there are some lightly frayed areas along the border
edge, (nothing seriously detracting). The patch is used and has been removed from a uniform; some remnants of
original sewing thread still remain. A unique embroidered variation;
a very nice, early, black back variation, not often encountered. About

| 99th Infantry
Division - The Checkerboard Division |

6UP-75. 2-3/4-inch wide x 2-5/8-inch high, fully embroidered,
black, shield shaped patch with blue and white checkerboard design
embroidered across the center and an OD border. The unit was activated in November
1942 and embarked for England in September 1944 and landed in the European
Theatre of Operations in Le Havre, France in November. The 99th arrived at
the front in Aubel, Belgium; Roer River, Siegfried Line, Battle of the
Bulge, Elsenborn, Monschau Forest, Rhine River, Ramagen, Lintz, Giessen,
Schwarzenau, Iserlohn, Altmuhl River, Danube River, Isar River and ended
the war near Munich, Germany. 151 Days of combat in three campaigns at a
cost of over 6,500 men. Light spots on the backside were a label was once

white dice with red dots representing the number, “11.” The unit was
activated in
June 1942, embarked for the Pacific Theatre of Operations in March 1944,
arriving in New Guinea in June 1944. Aitape, Torricelli Mountains,
Driniumor. Assault landing on Morotai Island, then onto the Philippines.
Leyte, San Antonio, Subic Bay, Bataan Peninsula, Zig-Zag Pass. Amphibious
and Airborne assault of Corregidor, Fort Stotensburg, Clark Field, Shimbu
Line, Minila Bay, Ipo Dam, Wawa Dam, Mt. Purro, and occupation in Japan.
This example exhibits light to moderate signs of age, wear, as well as
light, even, soil. The backside has minor remnants of glue from being in a
scrapbook. A

| 75th
Infantry Division |

6UP-77. 2-1/2-inch
wide x 2-3/4-inch high red, white and blue shield shaped patch bearing the
number “75” in the center. The unit was activated in 1943 and
headquartered at Ft. Leonard Wood, in Missouri. After participating in the
Louisiana maneuvers, in 1944, the unit embarked for the European theatre
of Operations. After a period of time training in England the unit landed
in France in December 1944.At the onset of the German Winter Offensive the
75th Infantry Division was assigned to the First Army and first
saw combat at the Ourthe River and in the Ardennes. The 75th
Infantry relieved the 82nd Airborne at the Salm River and as
part of the 7th Army the participated in clearing the Germans
from the Alsace-Lorraine area. The 75th took part in the
liberation of Colmar, helped clear the Colmar Pocket and reached the Rhine
River. As part of the British 2nd Army the 75th
relieved the British 6th Airborne in Holland along the Maas
River.
In March 1945 the 75th Infantry patrolled the west bank
of the Rhine from Wesel to Homberg and later crossed the Rhine during
Operation Plunder. Ruhr Pocket, Lippstadt, Dortmund, Herdecdke, and Lutgen,
as well as occupation duty in Westphalia. The 75th Infantry
Division spent 94 days in combat in three Campaigns at a cost of over
4,300 men. The unit was inactivated, in the U.S., in November 1945. Unused.
Extremely slight and very insignificant signs of age from storage. Near

Ninth Army Corps - (IX) |

6UP-78. 2-3/4-inch
diameter, fully embroidered deep blue patch with dark red Roman numeral
“IX” (9), embroidered within a dark red circle with blue border. After
the December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attack the 9th
Corps took part in the defense of the coasts of Washington state and
Oregon. In 1942 the 9th Corps trained combat units of various
Theatre of Operations. In 1944 the 9th Corps was shipped to
Hawaii with the mission of assisting in the preparation of a plan for the
invasion of the Japanese occupied coast of China and Okinawa. In July the
9th Corps landed in the Philippine Islands and prepared for
Operation Olympic, the invasion of Kyushu, Japan. The end of Japanese
hostilities cancelled further preparation by the 9th Corps. The
unit received credit for involvement in the Asia-Pacific Theatre of
Operation and they were assigned occupation duties in Hokkaido, Japan. Unused.
