| USMC Sage Green
Herringbone Twill, (HBT), Utility Cover, (Hat), Dated 1952 |
 |
1UH-LC1 /1PWE-15. 1952 dated Marine
Corps, sage green HBT hat, (Not Sateen). The hat has eight
sewn pleats; no stiffening or edge stitches, (as per specifications for
that period hat), and two small OD metal vent grommets on each side.
There are eight rows of stitching on the visor; the interior is unlined
and there is an HBT sweatband. The
front of the hat bears a black silhouette stencil eagle, glove &
anchor design, (EGA). The interior of this example has a sewn-in, white
cloth label, which is marked, “Large, The Lilley-Ames Co., Inc., Cont.
N50M 108566, Dated 14 May 1952. A scarce Marine Corps hat that is very
difficult to obtain. We have added this Post-WW2 Marine Corps cap
in this section because it very closely resembles its M44, WW2, cousin
and we feel it will enhance any military hat collection. Marked
size “Large.” A bit wrinkled from storage. Genuine Military
Issue. VERY SCARCE. Unused. Mint. $85.00 SOLD

Combat Helmet & Liner With OD Straps & Swivel Bale - Excellent
Condition |
 |
1UH-2. The exterior of the steel helmet retains approximately
98%, or more, of its original WW2 period coarse green paint finish,
(absolutely not a repaint). The exterior of the steel helmet exhibits
light age, light marks on the sides, where it was pressed against
packing paper and into other helmets in its wood crate, as well as other
light and minor surface scratches, scuffs and insignificant white marks.
The interior of the steel helmet retains approximately 95% of its
original WW2 period, smooth, matte green paint finish, (absolutely not a
repaint); the interior exhibits light age and minor surface scuffs and
scratches from the liner being inserted and removed. The “heat of the
steel,” number, “10 3B,” is stamped on the inside left side near
the chinstrap bale; the heat of the steel number, stamped on some
helmets, allowed the helmet to be tracked; if the helmet proved
defective, helmets from that lot could be removed from the system.
The near mint, olive drab cotton straps with, blackened brass, claw hook
and arrow buckle, are attached to the helmet through a flexible
chinstrap loop, the metal hardware on the straps exhibit light age and
extremely insignificant wear to the blackened surface. The metal rim
edging is seamed in the front and retains approximately 98% of its
original paint. The excellent condition fiber liner with front vent
hole, exhibits approximately 98% of its, lightly textured, dark olive
green repaint, (this is an official military repaint and not recently
done). The interior of the liner has, clean, light olive colored cotton
interior webbing and blued metal suspension hardware. There are signs of
light, surface, verdigris on most of the metal suspension hardware and
some have light to moderate spots of surface rust, (nothing severe; most
can be easily cleaned up). The liner has a moderately used russet brown
leather chinstrap with aged matte green finished metal hardware; the
leather is soft and supple; it is lightly aged and worn, exhibiting
light to moderate surface cracks, which is normal when these straps have
been used; the strap is completely serviceable. The liner is complete
with a light olive colored cotton nape strap, which is attached with
four silver/gray colored snaps. The russet brown colored leather
sweatband is very lightly used; it has very minor soil consistent with
light use and storage; the metal clips that attach the sweatband to the
liner suspension have a matte green painted finish; the sweatband is
adjusted by a, flat, slip-through, metal buckle. The interior of liner
has a very light dusty soil; the crown is very lightly stamped with the
“Westinghouse” Company logo design, as well as the number “?2;”
(the number is very lightly stamped and not completely legible). This is
an excellent example of an original WW2 M1 helmet. This helmet is part
of a very large lot of WW2 helmets we acquired, many years ago, from a
local military depot; the helmets were packed in McCord packing crates
dated 1944 & 1945. A very clean and complete example; you will
not be disappointed with this helmet. A beauty. Near
excellent, or better, condition. $175.00 SOLD

| U.S. Navy, Gray
Color, Combat Dixie Cup Hat |
 |
1UH-3. A very scarce and little known article of WW2 Navy
headgear. U.S. Naval personnel wore this hat, while on deck, on some
submarines and ships, in combat areas. A standard U.S. Navy “Dixie
Cup” hat, that’s constructed of medium colored gray cotton, (NOT
a white hat dyed gray), designed as a form of camouflage to
eliminate the possibility of a white hat, reflecting ambient light and
being seen in the dark. This hat was not used after WW2. Size “7”
tag sewn inside. I personally removed these hats from a master
box, which was dated 12/29/43. A very unusual and unique piece of WW2 U.S. Naval
combat memorabilia. May have a small soil spot or other
insignificant sign of age associated with years of storage, (nothing of
a serious nature). SCARCE. Unused
Excellent. $59.00 |

Olive Drab Melton Wool Service Cap – Semi Crusher Visor |
 |
1UH-4.
WW2, US Army officer service cap constructed of smooth, Melton
wool. Olive brown top with double grommet vent holes on each side and an
olive green colored woven officer hatband. Russet, semi flexible, soft
leather visor, adjustable, russet leather chinstrap, and russet
leather adjustable blackstrap, with prong back, tarnished brass
buttons. Very nice, large size, gold colored officer cap insignia that
exhibits some minor tarnish in spots. Wide, brown leather sweatband is
stamped on the outside, “Genuine Fur Felt.” Orange waterproof sweat
shield covers the inside top portion of the cap. The sweat shield is
stuck to the inside material, as so often happens with this plastic
waterproofing material. The maker’s name and logo design can be seen
through the waterproofing material, “Art Caps, New, York.” There are
three moth bites, on the front right edge, that don’t actually
completely pierce through the material. A very beautiful hat in
Excellent+ condition. The leather parts are every so slightly aged; they
are all in excellent condition, no rips, tears, cracks or other
detractions. The underside of the visor is clean. The wool top is clean
and in beautiful condition. 7-1/8 paper size label glued on the
sweatband. Very insignificant signs of any actual use. A Real
Beauty. Excellent+. $165.00 SOLD |

Man, Transportation Corps, OD Wool Overseas Cap, (Garrison Cap), With Sterling Silver 346th Infantry Regiment DI |
 |
1UH-5.
Olive drab wool serge side cap piped in Transportation Corps
brick & yellow colors, (straight line pattern), complete with an
original unit distinctive insignia, (DI). The DI is for the 346th
Infantry Regiment, (87th Infantry division), motto, “Semper Et Ubique
Fidelis,” (Always and Everywhere Faithful); the DI is original to the
hat, (that's the way we acquired it). The 346th Infantry Regiment was
organized at Camp McCain, Mississippi on 15 Dec 42 and assigned to the
87th Infantry Division. The unit departed New York Port of Embarkation
on 17 Oct 44, arriving in England Oct 22 44; they landed in France 56
Dec 44, crossed into Belgium 12 Jan 45; they entered Germany mar 45. The
unit returned to Ft. Benning, Georgia and was inactivated on 21 Sept 45.
346th Infantry Regiment participated in the following
campaigns: Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. The exterior
and interior of the cap is clean, it exhibits light to moderate signs of
age and use. The integral, light OD cotton, sweatband exhibits light to
moderate signs of soil from actual use; and it's marked with the
owner’s serial number, "7710." There is no specification or
size tag, however, there is a laundry tag stapled into the inside crown.
Small size, (maybe size 7). The DI is heavily enameled; the enamel is
100% intact with very light signs of age and use. The backside of the DI
is stamped, "sterling," and it has a screw post with a, fluted
edge, circular nut. A very nice example. Overall Vg+. $42.00 |

Helmet |

1UH-6.
Olive Drab painted tank crew helmet constructed of a highly compressed
cardboard composite material, ten large ventilation holes on top, olive
green colored leather trim. Padded earflaps are constructed to accept
earphones, large flap at back to protect neck. Exterior adjusting straps,
to secure goggles and spring retainers to secure earphones and hold them
tight to the ears. The interior russet colored leather lining is padded,
on under side, at the front, sides and back and is complete with its
original adjusting string. Interior lining stamped, "Rawlings"
76072 Patent No's 130.678 2.282.830, size 7. Rawlings, of course,
manufactured sporting goods equipment before the war. The object of this
helmet was to provide some protection for the crew while inside the tank.
The front hole on the top of the helmet has two indentations where
something had been pressed into it, not to detracting. Half of one metal
snap is missing. The pad, on the right side, under the leather lining, is
missing. The helmet retains near 100% of its original paint, which has
become light to moderately scuffed, in some spots, from handling and
storage. Some of the olive green leather trim exhibits minor wear from
handling and storage. The interior lining exhibits moderate wear and soil
on the forehead area. The
finish to the leather is worn on the edges and the interior has darkened
slightly from age, otherwise the lining is at least Vg or slightly better
condition. Don't let this opportunity, to acquire an elusive piece
of WW2 equipment, pass you by. SCARCE. Vg-. $165.00 SOLD |

exterior of the steel helmet retains approximately 90%, or more, of its
original WW2 period coarse green paint finish, (absolutely not a
repaint). The exterior of the steel helmet exhibits moderate age, light
to moderate scuffs and scratches with light to moderate surface wear to
the painted finish, as well as moderate wear to the coarse finish on the
top of the helmet. The interior of the steel helmet retains
approximately 95% of its original WW2 period, smooth, matte green paint
finish, (absolutely not a repaint), the interior exhibits light age,

edging is seamed in the front and retains approximately 90% of its
original paint, some of which is chipped and worn from handling and
storage. The excellent condition fiber liner with front vent hole,
exhibits approximately 95% of its, very lightly textured, olive green
repaint, (this is an official military repaint and not recently done);
There are some sings of light paint drips and areas where another liner
was placed on top of this one before the paint was dry, (unfortunately
the Army was not thinking of us collectors when they refinished these
liners). The interior of the liner has, very lightly aged and very
lightly soiled, (nothing serious), light olive colored cotton interior
webbing and green metal suspension hardware; the metal hardware is in
excellent condition, exhibiting only slight signs of age. The liner has
a dark russet brown leather chinstrap with aged green metal hardware;
the leather is soft and supple; it is very lightly aged and lightly
worn, exhibiting some light surface cracks, which is normal when these
straps have been used; the strap is completely serviceable. The liner is
complete with an excellent condition, clean, light olive colored cotton
nape strap, which is attached with four, clean, un-rusted, silver/gray
colored snaps. The dark flesh colored leather sweatband exhibits light
to moderate age, use and soil consistent with moderate use and storage;
the metal clips that attach the sweatband to the liner suspension have a
matte green painted finish, which is lightly aged and moderately worn,
with some heavy chipping; the sweatband is adjusted by a, flat,
slip-through, metal buckle. The interior of liner is clean with a very
thin film of dust; the crown is very lightly stamped with the
“Westinghouse” Company logo design, as well as the number “D
16.” The helmet comes with an original British net, issued to U.S.
troops, which is constructed of heavy, light olive, (khaki), cord,
knotted in approximately ¾-inch squares; the net is in excellent
condition. This is an excellent example of an original WW2 M1 helmet.
The metal helmet is part of a very large lot of WW2 helmets we acquired,
many years ago, from a local military depot; the helmets were packed in
McCord packing crates dated 1944 & 1945. The original liner and its
components were carefully married to the helmet taking into
consideration age, wear, finishes and availability of parts. A
clean and complete example with khaki straps and original net; you will
not be disappointed with this helmet. Khaki strap helmets are
increasingly difficult to obtain. Near excellent. $225.00 SOLD |
