Please Note: The patches and cloth insignia listed here as "Vietnam
Theatre Made," "Locally Manufactured,"
or " Handmade," refer to vintage, Vietnam War
period, patches that are not like the mass-produced
patches that we are familiar with today. These highly collected patches
were produced individually by hand sewing or hand sewn on a sewing
machine, in small shops, throughout Vietnam, as well as, Cambodia,
Thailand and Laos. Some patches were somewhat more professionally
machine embroidered in Korea, Okinawa, Taiwan, Japan and the
Philippines. The collector interest and value of these patches lies in
the individual artistic handmade rendering and crude quality of each
patch.

Transportation Recovery - Theatre Made |
 |
3VNP-25. 3-3/8-inch wide x 4-in high, red
linen, shield shaped patch depicting an intricately hand-embroidered
design of a flying vulture, holding a helicopter in one talon; other
talon has an unknown object with the word, “Vietnam.” Other
lettering within the vultures feathers are, “CHS 76,” & 004
659658;” the lettering is quite small and difficult to read, (I may be
off on the numbers); they might be helicopter unit and tail numbers.
Other wording embroidered on the red field, as follows: “The
Vultures,” “You crash and call, we dash and haul; “56 Trans
Recovery.” Outside edge of the patch has a hand -embroidered black
border. The backside of the patch exhibits a multitude of thread showing
the considerable amount of handwork that went into the construction of
this patch. Beautiful embroidery and excellent detail. This patch is
constructed in a hand-embroidered style that is characteristic of,
original, Vietnam War period theatre made patches. This patch does not
appear to have been used; it exhibits extremely light signs of age and
minor soil from handling. A real beauty. Unused.
Excellent. $125.00 SOLD |

765th Transportation
|
|
3VNP-28. 3-3/4-inch wide x 3-7/8-inch high, machine embroidered
patch, depicting a yellow material arrow in the center with a bottom
tab, which is embroidered, “Will Do.” The yellow arrow portion is
made from the base material of the patched and outlined by the
embroidery. Backside has cheesecloth backing in the area of the yellow
arrow. The embroidery type is not the standard style found
in American made patches. The 765th DI is constructed from
thin metal and it has a hand painted design, which is lightly aged and
lightly worn. The backside has two attaching pins with clutch type
fasteners; the backside is marked, “765 Trans,” with red & green
marking pen. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to positively identify
this patch, however, the patch came with the 765th
Transportation beer can DI attached to it and the DI contains some of
the attributes of the patch. DI has been used and would rate about Vg.
The patch exhibits several small puncture holes, in the area of the
yellow arrow where the previous owner attached the DI; the patch appears
to be unused and is in near excellent condition. $55.00 For the set.

adopted in 1955; in 1958 the ranks were restructured and the insignia was
made larger, like the one offered here. The Sp5 rank has been discontinued
