Named, Air Force 3rd Model, OG-107, Slant Pocket, Cotton Poplin, Wind Resistant Shirt, Major, Senior Pilot

1VNU-1. An olive green cotton poplin shirt with five concealed front buttons, two slanted chest pockets and two large lower pockets; the pockets are pleated, have expandable gussets and are covered with a large flap, which is secured by two concealed buttons. The cuffs have a tapered gusset opening with a double button adjustment; green composition, buttons are used throughout, (all buttons are intact). The 3rd model shirt differs from other models as it has concealed buttons, and no shoulder epaulets. A 2-7/8-inch square white cloth specification label is sewn on the backside of the lower right pocket; label reads, “Coat, Man’s, Cotton, Wind Resistant Poplin, Olive Green, Army Shade 107, DSA 100-2093 100% Cotton;” the label is also printed with instructions for care and use. The “Medium Long” size label, at the neck, is intact. As a rule, the labels on early 3rd model shirts are not dated. Each side of the collar bears a, black, Major rank insignia with yellow/gold edge trim; the insignia is hand embroidered directly onto the collar. The left breast has an Air Force Senior pilot wing, directly embroidered onto the shirt with black thread and a heavy OD cotton tape with hand embroidered, theatre style, “U.S. Army” letters. The right breast has a slightly different heavy OD color cotton tape with the name, “Hughes,” hand embroidered in black theatre style letters. The nametapes are machine sewn and appear to be original to the shirt. The shirt is in overall excellent condition; it exhibits insignificant signs of age and wear. A nice example of, in country, direct embroidery. Excellent. $95.00 SOLD

68 Dated Vietnam US Navy G-1 Leather Jacket

1VNU-2. Dark brown goatskin leather US Navy G-1 flying jacket with genuine, reddish brown, sheepskin collar. Button flap patch pockets on each side, gusset on back of each arm for extra movement and comfort, heavy-duty “Conmar” zipper, vented underarms, knit cuffs and waistband, zipper flap is punched “USN.” Interior of jacket is lined with dark brown rayon material and has one breast pocket with a  snap closure. Black cloth label embroidered with silver/white thread, marked, “ Jacket, Flying Mans, Intermediate, Type G-1, Size 38, mil-J-7823D, (?NP)DSA 100-68-C-805, Brill Bros., Inc. 8415-2687798.” Overall the leather exhibits light to moderate age and wear from actual use. It has a broken in  “salty” appearance. The real sheepskin collar is very lightly worn on each side where the zipper terminates. Patches and nametag have been removed leaving stitch marks on left and right breast, as well as, right sleeve. The waistband has two repairs, a few very small holes, one moderate vertical separation in the material, one large and a few small raveled spots along the bottom edge. Cuffs are stretched out but in Vg condition, most likely replaced long ago. Interior lining excellent. The jacket is very sound and presentable. Would make a great mannequin display or actually wear it if you’re a slim size 38. Vg.  $195.00

The 3rd model shirt differs from other models as it has concealed buttons, and no shoulder epaulets. A 3-inch wide x 2-1/8-inch high white cloth specification label is sewn on the backside of the lower right pocket; label reads, “Instruction Label, Coat, Man’s, Combat, Tropical, Rip Stop, DSA-100-68-C-0832, 100% Cotton, Burgess Mfg. Inc; the “Medium Short” size label, at the neck, is intact. The collar bears black embroidered crossed rifles on OD cotton, as well as light brown/gold Major rank insignia embroidered on OD. The left sleeve of this specimen exhibits a very nice example of a first issue, factory embroidered, Americal Division, (23rd Infantry Division), patch that has an OD cotton center with black embroidered stars and border; the patch exhibits very light signs of age and minor wear. The right sleeve has a MACV. (Military Assistance Command Vietnam), patch that has a black sword and bastion that appears to be machine embroidered on a variation green background that is worn and aged. The left breast has a factory embroidered airborne wing on OD cotton; a factory embroidered Master Army Aviator wing on an olive brown cotton and a heavy OD canvas style tape with theatre style “U.S. Army” embroidery. The right breast has a heavy OD canvas style nametape with theatre style embroidery with the name, “Harrison.” All insignias are machine sewn and appear to be original to the shirt. The shirt is very nice condition; it exhibits very little signs of age and wear. A very nice example. Vg+. $95.00 SOLD

Named, US Army 18th Aviation Company, Captain Pilot, Vietnam War Period - Theatre Made, Party Flight Suit

1VNU-4. Excellent quality, one piece, step in, blue gabardine material “Party Flight Suit.” The “Party Flight Suit” is usually worn as civilian clothes when relaxing or out “Partying.” It is designed to show the owners name, nickname, rank, branch of service and unit and is made in the theatre of operation. This suit has a brass “Venus” front zipper, two small upper chest pockets with flap closure, secured with small sewn in snaps on each end of the flap.  Large vertical zipper pockets on each side at the waist and horizontal zipper pockets on lower leg, as well as a zipper opening, with internal gusset, at ankle. Left sleeve has horizontal zipper, patch pocket for cigarettes and slots for pencils and pens. Captain rank is directly embroidered, in white thread, on each epaulet. A US Army Pilot wing and the word RELIABLE  “5” is directly embroidered on left chest. A fully embroidered, Army Recon aircraft is machine sewn below the left chest pocket, with the name “BUF,” below. “Pat Patrick” is directly embroidered above the right chest pocket and a 3-1/2in-diameter unit patch is sewn below. The patch depicts, apparently, a cartoon like Otter, wearing earphones and hat bearing the number “18. ” Lettering around outside edge of patch reads, “18th Aviation Company, Low, Slow, Reliable.” The cuff on the left sleeve is embroidered, “69-70 QUI NHAN,” right sleeve embroidered “OTTER AIRLINES.” Udorn, Thailand tailor label in neck. All theater made. Small size, long length. Appears to have been used very little, a beauty. Near mint condition.  $150.00 SOLD

A 2-5/8-inch square white cloth specification label is sewn on the backside of the lower right pocket; label reads, “Coat, Man’s, Cotton, Wind Resistant Poplin. Olive Green, Army Shade 107, DSA 100-2113 100% Cotton;” the label is also printed with instructions for care and use; the stitching is missing on three sides of the label. The size label at the neck is missing. As a rule, the labels on early 3rd model shirts are not dated. The left sleeve of this specimen exhibits a very nice example of a theatre made, 2nd Field Force patch that has an OD cotton center with black velvet side panels with a gray embroidered sword and border; the patch exhibits moderate overall age and light wear. The left breast has a flat, (Bevo style), embroidered U.S. Army tape. Right breast has a heavy OD canvas style tape printed with the name, “Barrett;” the name is quite faded and very difficult to read. All insignia are machine sewn and appear to be original to the shirt. The shirt is Moderate to heavily overall aged and worn, there are a few very tiny holes that are not noticeable at first glance, as well as insignificant white spots that will disappear when rubbed with a fingernail, (doesn’t appear to be paint); the OD color is quite faded; the cuffs and bottom are lightly frayed in spots.  A well used, but very sound example. Named, Army 100% Cotton Sateen Shirt – Lt. Colonel - JFK Special Warfare School, Vietnam War Period
ShirtWahl.JPG (50781 bytes) 1VNU-6. Man’s, heavy, olive green cotton sateen shirt with, two, patch type, chest pockets with large, single button, flap closure and wide, non adjustable cuffs. Raised rim composition, buttons used throughout; the two chest pocket have olive brown colored buttons and the front buttons are an olive green color. There is a faded and deteriorated white cloth specification label sewn on lower left inside of the shirt; the printing is pretty much illegible from washing; the size label at the neck has deteriorated from washing, as well. The collar bears, early style, gold embroidered crossed rifles on olive drab cotton, as well as silver/white Lt. Colonel rank insignia embroidered on OD sateen material. The left sleeve of this specimen exhibits a very nice example of an early Airborne JFK Special Warfare School that has a highly detailed, fully embroidered, multi-colored design with a gold embroidered edge, (not merrowed); the patch exhibits light signs of age and wear. The left breast has an early, white, factory embroidered master airborne wing on tan material and a flat, (Bevo style), embroidered U.S. Army tape with gold letters on black material. Right breast has a heavy, wide, white canvas style tape printed with the name, “Wahl.” All insignia are machine sewn and appear to be original to the shirt. The shirt exhibits very light signs of age and wear, the OD color is mostly intact and there are no frayed spots.  A very sound example. Vg. $85.00 SOLD

An olive green cotton poplin shirt with five concealed front buttons, two slanted chest pockets and two large lower pockets; the pockets are pleated, have expandable gussets and are covered with a large flap, which is secured by two concealed buttons. The cuffs have a tapered gusset opening with a double button adjustment; green composition, buttons are used throughout, (all buttons are intact). The 3rd model shirt differs from other models as it has concealed buttons, and no shoulder epaulets. A 4-inch wide x 3-1/2-inch high white cloth, "Instruction," label is sewn on the backside of the lower right pocket; the label provides information on how to wear and how to care for shirt. another label adjacent to the above label reads, "Coat, Man's, Combat, Tropical DSA-100-1387;" An aditional "Regular-Small," size label is sewn on the inside neck area. As a rule, the labels on early 3rd model tropical shirts are not dated. The left sleeve of this specimen exhibits a very nice example of a theatre made, 44th Medical Brigade patch that has an OD cotton center with black velvet side panels and a hand embroidered star design in the center; each sleeve bears a hand embroidered, black, Specialist-4 rank chevron on OD cotton. On close inspection you will see that the the Spc-4 chevrons are mismatched, however, they were applied in-country and have always been on the shirt. The left breast has a machine-embroidered, by hand, U.S. Army tape; the right breast has a heavy OD canvas style tape printed with the name, "Troccoli.” All of the insignias are in excellent condition, they are machine sewn and appear to be original to the shirt. The shirt is in excellent used condition and exhibits very light and insignificant signs of age and use; the OD color is not faded. A superior example. $79.00 SOLD
